A brilliant start was produced at the Port Elizabeth leg of the South African Swimming Grand Prix, taking place at the Newton Park Swimming pool on 20th 2016.
Olympic champion-2012 Chad le Clos was on top of the medal podium in both main men’s events of the day. He won 50 m butterfly and the 100 m freestyle, posting golden times, one of the best results of the season in fly (24,51) and 50,04 in free.
His teammates Nico Meyer and Clayton Jimmie finished the second and the third in the butterfly race with 24,81 and 24,90, while Jimmie also scooped the silver in the freestyle swim with 50,36 and Douglas Erasmus took the bronze (50,67).
In the women’s part of the Grand Prix’s program another double gold medallist was a local swim star 23-years-old Jessica Ashley-Cooper. In the 50 m free she touched the wall in a very fast 26,51, ahead of her teammates Emma Chelius (27,17) and Jade Neser (27,20), while in the 100 m butterfly she clocked a modest time of 1.02,07.
