On the 12th of XXXI Summer Olympic Games in Rio-de-Janeiro American women’s water polo team is in one step to win the second gold title in the history of the Games.
In the semi-final USA water polo’s players defeated a strong team of Hungary with score of 14:10 to reach the finale, where they will face Italy in order to be the first team since women’s water polo became an Olympic sport to win back-to-back Games’ gold medals.
In a semi-final the best Magyar forward Rita Keszthelyi scored four goals, but the efforts of American leaders Maddie Musselman and Kiley Neushel sealed the victory to their squad and a ticket to the final Olympic match.
The win against Hungary was the 21st consecutive victory for the Americans, which have won all five matches in Rio-2016 by a combined 61-27 goal differential.
Italy, the second finalist, is also unbeaten in Rio after a 12-9 victory over Russia in the other semi-final. The Italians have outscored their opponents in Rio by a combined 51-31. Arianna Garibotti scored five goals and Giulia Gorlero made nine blazing saves to lead the Italians. Roberta Bianconi and Chiari Tabani added two goals apiece.
