On the third day of All-Russian competitions among young men (15-17 years) and girls (13-15 years) a local swimming school’s representative Yaroslav Potapov posted the Russian junior record in the 1500 m freestyle with a time of 14.51,76 and topped the rating of the strongest swimmers of the tournament, gaining 868 points on FINA’s system.
A month ago, at the National Russian short course championships in Kazan he swam this distance almost ten seconds worse (15.01,32), becoming a champion among men. Progress of the young athlete is very strong, at Volgograd’s meet he has exchanged for the first time the very important for any water stayer 15-minutes’ mark in the swimming marathon.
Top places the girls’ table of ranks are divided by local swimmer Darya Tokareva and Varvara Simonova (Perm Region), who after today’s winning in the 400 m free (4.10,72) caught up with her on points (818).
550 young athletes from 65 regions of the Russian Federation play those days in the 25-meter pool of Sports’ complex «Iskra» for medal at the competitions in 34 individual and four relays’ swim disciplines.
For the time being Moscow swimmers are leading in the total number of awards with won 23 prizes (9 gold, 8 silver and 6 bronze). On the second line of the unofficial medal standings by efforts of Evgeny Somov, four-time meet’s winner and Roman Shevlyakov, posted swimmers of St. Petersburg (6, 1, 3), which exceeded by number of gold medals the local team of Volgograd region (4, 9, 8).
Those young St. Petersburgers set new meet’s records: Roman Sevlyakov (twice) in the 200 m butterfly in the qualifying (1.54,94) and with 1.54,76 in the final and Evgeny Somov in the final swim race of 100 m IM (54,28).
